RTÉ banking on Des Cahill’s survival on Dancing With The Stars

RTÉ are hoping that Des Cahill stays on Dancing With The Stars as long as possible – as text votes for him are generating serious cash for the station.

The Sunday Game host is said to be attracting votes from male viewers who love seeing Dancing Dessie’s questionable footwork on the dancefloor.

An insider told the Irish Sun on Sunday: “Des Cahill provides the comedy on Dancing With The Stars but RTE are laughing all the way to the bank with him because of the 60 cent text and calls he generates.

“The longer he stays on, the more revenue comes in.”

Favourite: Des is much loved by DWTS voters | RTE

However, it looks like Des’ days on DWTS may be numbered, as he came close to pulling out of the show this week with “conjunctivitis, a sinus infection, fluid on the knee and a calf strain”.

Meanwhile, RTÉ have come under fire after Des Bishop, who was booted off last week, complained of “weird voting”.

RTÉ refused to reveal the final scores as the information is ‘commercially sensitive’, but said that the result was independently audited by Price Waterhouse Coopers.

An RTE spokeswoman insisted, “The public and judges decide who stays and goes in the competition.”
