Bono met with Mike Pence, the United States Of America’s new Vice President, and people were not happy.
The U2 frontman and his band bashed President Donald Trump during his campaign – so his meeting with the VP was considered strange.
However, the Dubliner met with Mike at the Munich Security Meeting to talk to him about the American’s support of an Emergency Plan for HIV/AIDS Relief back in 2003.
At the time, Mike sat in congress representing Indiana and George W. Bush was the president, who pledged $15 billion for HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and research in developing countries during his term.
While their conversation was short, Bono said that he “really appreciated” that Mike had twice voted in favour to have the plan passed and that it had “really helped” the fight against the disease.
When the video of their conversation emerged, many hit out at the musician for meeting with 57-year-old.
Twitter users shared screenshots of the footage and mentioned Mike’s supportive and controversial stance on gay conversion therapy.

@VP @MunSecConf Pence is the type of person who would recommend electro-conversion therapy to AIDS patients

The same Mike Pence who caused a massive HIV outbreak in the state he governed? Sit down, Bono. https://t.co/Cgq4gMndvP

Bono what a slap in the face to people suffering/living w/ HIV/AIDS, Mike Pence was personally responsible for the HIV outbreak in Indiana! https://t.co/tnOS5RhxFA

Just when you think Bono couldn’t be more of an arse… he goes and tells Mike Pence “it’s amazing, you’ve really hit the ground running”. pic.twitter.com/LweyZzVHZS

Well Bono…Save your praise! Mike Pence is far from a leader in HIV. He is opposed to everything proven to prevent HIV.

Yes Bono, Mike Pence’s HIV work is phenomenal. Just ask Scott County where he let the number of HIV cases double.
