In a shocking turn of events, 2016 was the year that reality star and multi-millionaire Donald Trump was elected President of the United States.
No matter what happened in the celebrity world this year, all of the Hollywood splits and all of Kanye’s psychotic breaks couldn’t outshine this event.
Hillary Clinton came in second and she would have been the first woman President ever.
2. Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint
Kim Kardashian went through a horrible time this year when she was robbed at gunpoint in a Paris hotel room.
The reality star was in the city of lights for Paris Fashion Week when two armed gunmen broke into her hotel room and tied her up.
Her husband Kanye West heard about the robbery during one of his concerts and he abruptly cut it short to go to his wife.
3. Amber Heard accused Johnny Depp of abuse
Earlier this year, Amber Heard accused her now ex-huband Johnny Depp of domestic abuse.
A few months after officially filing for divorce, Amber recorded a video showing Johnny kicking and slamming cabinet doors in their kitchen.
The actress was apologising in the background while he poured a glass of wine.
The actor eventually noticed she had been recording the exchange and he grabbed for the recording device.
4. Beyoncé dropped Lemonade
Out of absolutely nowhere, Beyoncé dropped one of her most intimate albums to date.
She released twelve songs and accompanying music videos on Tidal.
The album caused intense controversy when it became clear that many of the songs were about cheating.
After it’s release, fans of Beyoncé’s started lashing out at Jay-Z on Twitter.
5. Kanye West was hospitalised
Kanye West was hospitalised a few weeks after his wife’s terrifying ordeal in Paris.
It was reported that he suffered a breakdown caused by exhaustion and dehydration – but other reports suggested that he had a psychotic break.
He was also reported to be having terrible nightmares about his wife’s attack.
The Yeezy rapper is now back home and said to be making music again.
6. Justin Bieber punched a fan in the face
While on tour in Europe, Justin Bieber punched one of his fans in the face.
Justin was riding along in the backseat of car in Barcelona with the window open to greet his fans, when a male fan put his hand in and touched the pop stars face.
Justin quickly reacted and reached his arm out the window to punch the man in the face.
7. Louis Tomlinson became a father
The One Direction star briefly dated Briana Jungwirth in 2015 after he broke up with his long term girlfriend Eleanor Calder.
She became pregnant and gave birth to baby Freddie in January 2016.
Louis has been renting a $1 million dollar home for Briana and Freddie to live in in Calabasas.
8. Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt
Definitely the most shocking celebrity split from 2016 has to be Brangelina.
The couple had been together for 12 years, though only married for two, and share six children.
The two are now involved in a custody battle and the current agreement is that the kids are in Angelina’s custody full time while Brad is allowed visitation with a therapist present.
9. Kanye West called out Taylor Swift for lying about Famous
Kanye’s track Famous includes the lyrics “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex/ Why? I made that b***h famous.”
Taylor Swift said that she was offended, saddened and surprised when the song was released, quickly reigniting the feud that they had just resolved.
But Kanye got the last laugh when his wife Kim Kardashian released a video of Kanye on the phone to Taylor Swift before releasing the song, where she hears the lyrics and says “It’s obviously very tongue in cheek either way. I really appreciate you telling me about it, that’s really nice.”
10. Cheryl Cole showed off her baby bump
Cheryl Cole and Liam Payne caused headlines in 2016 because of their relationship – but a few months ago it was brought to a whole new level.
Cheryl has been spotted out and about with a baby bump, but there still is no official announcement that the couple are expecting.
The couple first made headlines because of their 10 year age difference.
11. Blac Chyna and Rob Kardashian got together and had a baby
The Kardashian relationships got even harder to follow in 2016.
Tyga’s ex and the mother of his child, got together with Rob Kardashian and had his baby.
Rob’s sister is Kylie Jenner, who has been in a relationship with Tyga since 2015. Confused? Me too.
12. Zayn Malik dissed One Direction in his AMA acceptance speech
Zayn took the stage at the 2016 AMAs to accept his Best New Artist trophy.
He looked happy and excited as he said “This one just has my name on it, right?”
One Direction fans were not happy with his little ‘joke,’ and they took to Twitter to lash out at him.
13. Bella Hadid and The Weeknd broke up suddenly
The relationship envy of the whole world broke up suddenly this year.
Bella Hadid and The Weeknd ended it, again, early in November.
They then gave us absolute ex goals at this years Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, when Bella walked while he was singing on the catwalk and they exchanged friendly glances.
14. David Bowie passed away
Pop legend David Bowie passed away this year after an 18-month battle with cancer.
The star’s hits include Let’s Dance, Changes, Space Oddity, Starman, Modern Love, Heroes, Under Pressure and Life on Mars.
The singer, who had been living in New York when he passed, released his latest album Blackstar only the Friday before his death, on his birthday.
15. Taylor Swift dumped Calvin Harris, and then dated Tom Hiddleston
Taylor Swift is known to have a very exciting love life.
Calvin Harris dated the American singer for 15 months before they confirmed their split in June.
Only weeks after the split, Taylor was spotted kissing Tom Hiddleston and they soon took their relationship public.
16. Gigi Hadid fought off an attacker
While attending Milan Fashion Week, Gigi and her sister Bella were leaving a building when a stranger seized her from behind and tried to pick her up.
Gigi screamed “Let go of me,” as she elbowed him in the face. “Who the f**k are you? You piece of s**t.”
Bella also tries to wrestle her sister from his grasp, until Gigi scrambles away and he flees the scene.
An understandably upset Gigi then beelined to her vehicle before instructing her team to “find that guy.”
