Bond star Alison Doody: 'I struggled not working, I got so depressed at times'

Former Bond girl Alison Doody has opened about being “depressed at times” after she closed the door on her Hollywood career to raise her children in Ireland.

Although the blonde bombshell has no regrets putting her career on hold to be mum, she admitted she struggled not working.

“[Acting] was out of sight, out of mind. I just didn’t have the same access,” she said.

“A lot of the roles I had got were due to someone else pulling out. You have to be there at the right time, at the right moment.

“Living in Kildare, suddenly finding myself pregnant, I just thought this was my next big job rearing my girls. I have no regrets about that whatsoever,” she told the Sunday Times.

“I got so depressed at times. I was struggling not working. Once you have worked and you’re independent, it’s hard to give up that independence.

“It’s great being a mum, it’s fulfilling, but you need an outlet,” she added.

Held back: Alison revealed her striking looks meant she wasn’t taken seriously as an actress | VIPIRELAND.COM

The 50-year-old, who transitioned from the catwalk to screen when she appeared in Bond flick A View To A Kill at just 18 – claimed her striking looks meant she wasn’t taken seriously as an actress.

“At times, I did myself no favours. I would dress up. I’d never underplay it – I should have,” she explained.

“But I look the way I look and I have to embrace it, unless I’m going to start using prosthetics or going down the route of Charlize Theron, who was brilliant in her roles [such as Monster, for which she piled on 30lbs].”

“I think at times my looks worked against me. They were looking for the girl next door, they weren’t looking for someone like me,” she added.
