Amanda Brunker on her Miss World experience: 'I was the original Nadine Coyle'

Amanda Brunker has revealed she had to get special permission to compete in the Miss World pageant in 1993.

The Dubliner admitted she was only 17-years-old  when she was crowned Miss Ireland even though the minimum age for entrants is 18.

“I was like the original Nadine Coyle,” she joked.

“I didn’t realise I was going to win the competition when I went in for it, I thought it would be something nice to do.

“Then I went and won the thing and thought, ‘No, we have to try to get out of this’,” she said on RTE’s Saturday Night with Miriam.

“I was going to be dethroned and my family were very upset because I was bringing shame to the family name.

“They had to ring the Miss World and see if they could let me in and it turned out there was some girl from Guatemala who was 17 as well, so they let me in and the rest, as they say, is history,” she revealed.

“I cried for most of it,” she added.
