Eoghan McDermott reveals he split open a BBC Radio 2 boss' head

Eoghan McDermott has opened up about a dramatic trip to London that ended in him accidentally splitting a BBC Radio 2 boss’ head open.

The RTE star had been in the English capital to interview the cast of Zoolander 2 and was using the UK station to broadcast his 2fm show.

However during his show, the Dubliner slipped out to use the bathroom when he accidentally swung a door open on the poor BBC employee.

“In the midst of the madness, I ran out of the studio to pop to the loo, with the comfortable cushion of two songs playing to make it back on time,” he said.

“As I swung open the door of the bathroom, an unfortunate gentleman was on the other side, bending down to pick something he had dropped from his wallet.

“The collision of his shiny bald head and the door handle was as ferocious as it was toe-curling. Within five seconds, blood was dramatically pouring from a deep gash and both of us were in shock,” he wrote in his the Sun column.

“I managed to collect myself and sprint to reception, call for first aid and grab a medical kit. I was on blood-soaked antiseptic wipe number three when the first aiders arrived.

“Given that this all happened in the space of a few minutes, I was still within my safety window of the songs playing back in studio, but had to run back to link back to Ireland in time,” he explained.

“After I had fulfilled this obligation, I sprinted back upstairs to check on the patient. He was nowhere to be found and an office worker informed me he had been taken away by the first aiders for medical attention.”

Despite helping the gentleman after the unfortunate incident, Eoghan inquired who the injured was – much to his detriment.

“Who was this man? I enquired, to my detriment. Just one of the bigwigs in BBC Radio 2. Don’t think I’ll be applying for a job there anytime soon so. Derp,” he added.
