A new photo of the Defence Forces Press Officer that was caught on the phone yesterday has gone viral – this time for a good reason.
The officer had been spotted live on RTE chatting on the phone while President D Higgins arrived at the GPO on O’Connell Street to commemorate the 1916 Rising.
Yesterday hundreds of people shared the screen grab, but a statement later in the day revealed the officer in question was actually a press officer and was talking to the media about how the day was going.
People were quick to hit out at Twitter users sharing the image, with many worried for the officers job, however today a much nicer image has gone viral.

So the soldier on his phone is a press officer. Share this pic of the lad instead of trying to get him fired! pic.twitter.com/7BKlvWHrXK
