David Beckham ‘tried to use his UNICEF charity work’ to win a knighthood

David Beckham launched into a foul-mouthed rage about being denied a knighthood, explosive leaked emails claimed last night.

Over the years, the footballer has worked with a number of charities, including UNICEF, but continued to miss out on a knighthood.

In documents leaked last night, it’s alleged that the father-of-four, who is reportedly worth £280 million, wrote a furious email to his long-time PR man Simon Oliveira back in 2013 about the snub.

After a year fronting the campaign to bring the 2012 Olympics to London, he wrote, “Katherine Jenkins OBE for what? Singing at the rugby and going to see the troops plus taking coke. F***ing joke.”

David was referring to when Katherine previously admitting to taking drugs in the past, including cocaine and ecstasy.

The sports star also reportedly hit out at the honours committee, who recommend recipients, by saying, “They’re a bunch of c**** I expected nothing less. It’s a disgrace to be honest and if I was American I would of got something like this 10 years ago.”

According to The Sun, the explosive emails were first published on the Football Leaks website, and were picked up by a number of European outlets including Mediapart – who were first to publish the allegations.

As reported by a number of European media outlets, including L’Equipe, the furious star also refused to use his own money to fund his charity and turned down millions of pounds in work to raise money for UNICEF.  He also demanded UNICEF pay for a £6,685 business class flight despite his sponsors splashing out on a private jet.

It is also reported that David set up a sham segment on the Jonathan Ross chat show to raise the prospect of a knighthood, backed the “stay” campaign in the Scottish independence referendum to win favour with “the establishment”, and moaned that his involvement in the Ingenious tax avoidance scheme was hampering his chances.

However, this morning David Beckham’s representative denied the damning claims.

“This story is based on outdated material taken out of context from hacked and doctored private emails from a third party server and gives a deliberately inaccurate picture,” a spokesperson said.

“David Beckham and UNICEF have had a powerful partnership in support of children for over 15 years. The David Beckham 7 Fund specifically has raised millions of pounds and helped millions of vulnerable children around the world. David Beckham has given significant time and energy and has made personal financial donations to the 7 Fund and this commitment will continue long term.

“Before establishing the 7 Fund, David had supported UNICEF and a number of other charities over many years, including donating his entire earnings from PSG during his time playing there.

“David and UNICEF are rightly proud of what they have and will continue to achieve together and are happy to let the facts speak for themselves.”

Football Leaks, the sports equivalent of WikiLeaks, apparently handles millions of confidential documents like transfer fees, wages and contract information about high-profile footballers.
