Ryan Gosling to play American hero in new biopic

The actor adds another iconic role to his portfolio

Ryan Gosling is set to play the American hero Neil Armstrong in a new biopic.

The actor has a long list of different genres behind him, including thriller, rom-com and drama – but playing such an iconic role such as this is a new one to add to his portfolio.

The film, First Man, is based off of the biography First Man: A Life Of Neil A. Armstrong which details the astronaut’s life.

Neil became a house hold name around the world in 1969 when he was the first man to walk on the surface of the moon and first said the iconic sentence, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film is expected to focus on the years leading up to the epic expedition, 1961 to 1969.

The script was written by Josh Singer, who won an Oscar for his work on Spotlight, a true story of how the Boston Globe uncovered the massive scandal of child molestation and cover-up within the local Catholic Archdiocese.
