Details of the infamous night Kanye West stormed the stage to tell the world Beyonce should have won a MTV Music Video Award – have finally been revealed.
The rapper famously jumped on stage at the 2009 MTV Awards, to interrupt Taylor Swift, who had just won Best Music Video.
Kanye West’s infamous stage invasion caused mayhem backstage, it has been revealed.
“Imma let you finish,” he said to the, then 19-year-old singer, telling the world Beyonce should have won for her video Single Ladies.
Now, the former chief of MTV, Van Toffler, has revealed both Taylor and Beyonce were back stage crying.
“When Kanye walked up onstage with Taylor that year, it turned out that Taylor had to go onstage to do her song five minutes later,” he explained.
“I ran out of the truck to see that everything was all right, and Taylor and her mom were crying hysterically. I’m not always wonderful with emotions. I didn’t know what to say.

“Then I went backstage, and Beyonce was crying, too,” he told the Hollywood Reporter.
Since the infamous incident, Taylor and Kanye have had a very tumultuous relationship. With most recently, Kanye’s wife Kim Kardashian calling out Taylor for “lying” that she didn’t approve a racy lyric in his song Famous.
Kim uploaded a video of Kanye on the phone to Taylor asking for her blessing, which then went viral.
