Jay Z the first rapper to be inducted into the Hall Of Fame

Jay Z is to become the first rapper to be honoured by the Songwriters Hall Of Fame.

The American’s career spans over 20 years and released his first record in 1996, Reasonable Doubts.

Other songwriters who will be inducted into the Hall Of Fame this year include Kenneth Babyface Edmonds, Max Martin and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis.

Chic guitarist Nile Rodgers announced the latest group of honourees to be inducted into the Hall Of Fame and praised Jay Z’s work.

“[Jay Z] changed the way we listen to music,” he said on CBS’s This Morning.

The 47-year-old posted an inspiring message on his Twitter after the news broke.

“By the way, this is a win for US,” he wrote.

“I remember when rap was said to be a fad.

“We are now alongside some of the greatest writers in history.”
