This major Riverdale character is being recast for season two

Riverdale is recasting one of its central characters for its second season.

TVLine revealed that Ross Butler is leaving the show, and another actor will take his place in the role of Reggie.

“We love what Ross did with the role of Reggie [this season], but because of his commitments to other projects, we couldn’t use him nearly as much as we would have liked,” series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said in a statement.

“[Next season], we want more Reggie on our show — he’s Archie’s rival! — and because Ross is unavailable to come back to Riverdale, we’re looking for a new Reggie.”

Aguirre-Sacasa added: “Those are big shoes to fill, but we’re confident we can find an actor who is as funny and sexy as Ross. And of course we all wish Ross the best.”

Ross also stars as Zachary Dempsey in 13 Reasons Why, leading many to speculate that the Riverdale recasting means the Netflix series is set to return for a second season.

Riverdale, based on the Archie Comics characters, premiered in January and was renewed for a second season last month.

The show also stars KJ Apa as Archie, Lili Reinhart as Betty, Camila Mendes as Veronica and Cole Sprouse as Jughead.

Mark Conseulos was recently cast as Veronica’s father Hiram Lodge, and will join Riverdale as a series regular if his other show Pitch is not picked up for a second season.
