Meryl Streep hits back following Karl Lagerfeld drama

Meryl Streep has hit back at Karl Lagerfeld following their public spat.

The designer claimed that he was going to give the actress a dress for this year’s Oscars but last minute spoke to the press and said that she decided not to wear it because another designer offered to pay her to wear their dress.

However, the Chanel creative director later said that this statement was not true.

Now Meryl has spoken out about the drama and said that Karl “defamed” her.

Defamed: Meryl hit back at Karl’s comments | ABC

“In reference to Mr. Lagerfeld’s ‘statement,’ there is no ‘controversy’: Karl Lagerfeld, a prominent designer, defamed me, my stylist and the illustrious designer whose dress I chose to wear, in an important industry publication,” she said in a statement obtained by WWD.

“That publication printed this defamation, unchecked. Subsequently, the story was picked up globally, and continues, globally, to overwhelm my appearance at the Oscars, on the occasion of my record-breaking 20th nomination, and to eclipse this honour in the eyes of the media, my colleagues and the audience.

“I do not take this lightly, and Mr. Lagerfeld’s generic ‘statement’ of regret for this ‘controversy’ was not an apology. He lied, they printed the lie, and I am still waiting.

On the night, Meryl wore a dress from Elie Saab instead and still looked stunning – check out the best and worst dressed at the Oscars 2017 HERE.
