WATCH: Lena Dunham responds to backlash over her weight loss

Lena Dunham is firing back at critics of her newly slimmer figure.

The Girls creator admitted she has been called a “hypocrite” for losing weight after turning to a healthier lifestyle to help with her endometriosis.

“It’s just so crazy because I spent six years of my career being called things like ‘bag of milk’ on the Internet. Baby cow, ageing cow,” she said on the Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday.

“I never felt self-conscious about it. Anyone who was going to take the time to say something negative about my weight on the internet wasn’t someone I was particularly keen to impress anyway.

Firing back: Lena Dunham discussed people branding her a “hypocrite” for losing weight on The Ellen DeGeneres Show

“Then, I had this experience of my body changing and suddenly I got all these people being like, ‘You’re a hypocrite! I thought you were body positive! I thought you were a person who embraces bodies of all sizes!’”

Lena added: “I do, I just understand bodies change. We live a long time. Things happen. Andrew Rannells could get very fat. We don’t know. I was frustrated by it because it really was evidence that as a woman in Hollywood, you just can’t win.”

During her appearance on the show the actress and writer also surprised the nurse that took care of her when she was in hospital because of her endometriosis, who is one of Ellen’s biggest fans.
