Will Smith CONFIRMED to play live-action version of iconic Disney character

Disney bosses have confirmed that Will Smith will play the live-action version of the Genie in Aladdin.

Officials announced the full casts for their live action versions of Aladdin and Dumbo at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, on Saturday.

As previously reported, Will Smith will follow in the late Robin Williams’ shoes to reprise the iconic role of the Genie, from the 1992 animated version of the film.

It was also revealed that newcomer Mena Massound will play Aladdin, and British star Naomi Scott (Power Rangers) will play Princess Jasmine.

The film, which will be directed by Guy Ritchie, will begin production in London later this month.

Meanwhile, the live-action reboot of Dumbo, which will be directed by Tim Burton, has already started production in London – and the cast includes former Bond girl Eva Green as French trapeze artist named Colette, who is employed by the film’s villain, Vandemere.

Vandemere will be played by Michael Keaton, while Danny DeVito will play the circus owner, and Colin Farrell will play a widowed dad who befriends the famous elephant.

Dumbo is set for release on March 29, 2019.
