Beauty and the Beast is set for a record-breaking opening weekend

It’s only just been released, but Beauty and the Beast is already on its way to breaking records at the box office.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that early Friday returns suggest the Disney live-action remake is expected to draw in over $60 million on Friday alone.

The movie could therefore earn $165 million-$170 million over the course of the weekend, making it one of the top 10 openings of all time, not taking inflation into account.

This would also make it the biggest PG opening ever, and the biggest March opening if it surpasses Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice’s $166million.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Thursday night preview alone took in $16.3million, which is the most for any movie this year so far and ever for a live-action Disney film.

It’s also the second biggest Thursday night preview for a PG movie and the third biggest in the history of movies being released in March.

Emma Watson and Dan Stevens star in the much-anticipated remake of the 1991 movie, alongside stars including Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Ewan McGregor, Ian McKellen and Emma Thompson.
