Irish documentary receiving high praise at Sundance Film Festival

The film follows a couple running a school in Meath

An Irish documentary has received high praise at the Sundance Film Festival.

In Loco Parentis is about a primary school in Meath and follows two teachers, John and Amanda Leyden who teach Latin and Maths and English and Electric Guitar at a stately home turned school.

The film was directed by Neasa Ní Chianáin and co-directed by David Rane who both created the highly observational documentary.

The IndieWire said that the In Loco Parentis was the “cutest documentary that Frederick Wiseman never made.”

The reviewer admitted that he was captivated by the Leyden family and that “John and Amanda are the platonically cute ideal of an ageing Irish couple.”

Variety also reviewed the film and said that the film-making “is delicately executed in every department.”
