Disney bosses deny film was held at ransom by hackers

Disney bosses don’t believe a hacker actually stole a copy of their new release Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell no Tales.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Disney CEO Bob Iger told staff that one of their upcoming movies could be leaked if a ransom wasn’t paid.

Although the company were said to have enlisted the help of the authorities, they later found that there was no real threat.

Bob Iger told Yahoo Finance, “To our knowledge we were not hacked.”

“We had a threat of a hack of a movie being stolen. We decided to take it seriously but not react in the manner in which the person who was threatening us had required.”

“We don’t believe that it was real and nothing has happened.”

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales opened in cinemas on May 25th.
