This Oscar-nominated actress could play the villain in X-Men’s Dark Phoenix

A major movie star might be about to join the Marvel Universe.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jessica Chastain is in talks to join the cast of upcoming X-Men movie Dark Phoenix.

The two-time Academy Award nominee is negotiating to appear as the villain Lilandra in the film, which is due for release next year.

Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner will be reprising her role as Jean Grey, whose powers become saturated with the Phoenix Force, eventually turning her bad.

The 1980s comic book story was loosely adapted into X-Men: The Last Stand in 2006, and fans and critics alike were not happy with the depiction of it.

Simon Kinberg is said to be making his directorial debut with the project, and will also be writing the screenplay after penning The Last Stand, Days of Future Past and Apocalypse.

Meanwhile there’s even more exciting news for fans of the franchise, as Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Nicholas Hoult have all inked deals to return for another movie.
