Ruth Negga nominated for major BAFTA Award

Ruth Negga has been nominated for another major award, and this time it’s for a BAFTA Rising Star gong.

The Ethiopian-born actress, who was raised in Limerick by her Irish mother, was nominated by the British Academy of Film and Television after her incredible performance in upcoming film Loving, which she stars in alongside Joel Edgerton.

Ruth is joined on the shortlist by new and improved Spider-Man star Tom Holland, Laia Costa (Victoria), Lucas Hedges (Manchester by the Sea) and Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch).

The nominee news was announced on Twitter this morning:

The news comes just days after Ruth was honoured with a Rising Star Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival in California.

The 34-year-old has also been nominated in the Best Actress category at this weekend’s Golden Globe Awards, which will take place in Los Angeles.

The rest of the BAFTA 2017 nominees will be announced next Tuesday, and the ceremony will take place at the Royal Albert Hall on February 12.
