Johnny Logan on life after his Eurovision win: 'My career was sunk'

Johnny Logan has revealed how his career imploded after winning Eurovision.

The Irish singer took home the gold in 1981 for the hit song What’s Another Year but found himself living in a flat with students just months after his win.

The 61-year-old explained that he was advised to buy a house after his win on the basis that he would start rolling in the cash but due to his management teams mistakes, his career stalled.

“My career was sunk.  I had no chance,” he told Miriam O’Callaghan on RTE Radio One.

“I couldn’t really handle it and lost a huge amount of weight.  I was left shell-shocked.”

Johnny lived in a flat with students in England soon after.

However, the rough time proved to be worth it in the end as it was while he was living in the flat that Johnny wrote his famous hit Hold Me Now, giving him his second Eurovision win in 1987.

Goss.ie recently listed Johnny as one of our favourite Irish acts in the Eurovision.
