Mary Byrne 'gutted' as she WON'T get chance to represent Ireland at Eurovision

X Factor star Mary Byrne has revealed she hasn’t been given a chance to represent Ireland at Eurovision.

The Dubliner hoped to win for Ireland in Austria with The Storm – written by Alan Hughes’ husband Karl Broderick.

But Mary has been told by RTE she hasn’t made it to the Eurosong final, and believes it is because she’s too old or fat.

She added: “I’m gutted because it’s a fabulous song written by Karl Broderick, who is one of the top composers in the country.

“I’m more disappointed for Karl, but I’m a huge Eurovision fan and there’s no denying I would have loved the chance to win it for Ireland again.

“I felt Karl’s song was very strong and inspiring, but it hasn’t been chosen and I’m gobsmacked.

“I am baffled as to why I didn’t get the chance to perform in the Irish Eurosong final. Maybe they’re looking for somebody younger, or a slimmer version of Mary Byrne?”

And the former Tesco worker, who appeared in the X Factor in 2010, said her time on the ITV show proved she’d have been perfect.

She said: “I feel that I proved during my time on the X Factor that I can do a good job under pressure, and that it would have stood to me in the Eurovision.”
