The Skellig Ring, a 30km drive off the Ring of Kerry, has been named by Lonely Planet as one of the top ten regions in the world to visit in 2017.
The course is the gateway to Skellig Michael, which features in the closing scenes of the Star Wars Episode VII movie, and is expected to feature prominently in the sequel due for release next year.
It consists of Skellig Michael, the 6th century island off the coast of Kerry, it’s sister island the Little Skellig, and the coastal villages on the mainland.

Exposure through the Star Wars movies is expected to drive tourist numbers from next year, with Lonely Planet advising early booking to ensure “unmissable experiences”.
This is what Lonely Planet had to say about the Skellig Ring, “A long time ago, far, far away… a small band of monks established a hidden base on a remote, wave-pounded hunk of rock rising out of the Atlantic like a giant triangle.
“With a setting like this, it’s no wonder Skellig Michael made the new Star Wars location list.”
