Bob Geldof has shocked festival goers – after he slammed them for wearing Primark.

The Dun Laoghaire native appeared on stage with his band The Boomtown Rats at Brentwood Festival in Essex on Sunday – but the singer was clearly unimpressed with the crowds attire, and launched into an explicit rant about clothing brand Primark.

“We are mega. And you are Brentwood. How do we know that you are Brentwood and we are mega? Because I, for one, am wearing a f**k off pretend snakeskin suit.

“On the other hand Brentwood, you are wearing wall to wall f*****g Primark,” Bob shouted into the crowd, according to the MailOnline.

“This is a rock and roll festival. When you come to a rock and roll festival, dress for a rock and roll festival.”

After criticising the crowds outfits, Bob then broached the topic of Brexit, having campaigned to Remain before the referendum.

“What are you booing for? We’re in f*****g Brexit land here guys. Yeah, we’re Irish, we’re still in Europe.

“It’s just as well we wrote that song because this year is about Theresa May. She’s gonna do you in.

“There’s always someone looking at you Brentwood,” he rambled.

According to the Essex Chronicle, many festival-goers walked out before their set ended, furious with Bob’s language at a family-friendly event.

According to the MailOnline, festival co-ordinator Laurie Edmonds said, “They’re a punk band. You expect them to be a bit controversial and he got a reaction from the crowd.

“People know he speaks his mind. That’s just what they do but they were a fantastic punk band and we thought it would go down well with our crowds.

“We know he’s a bit of a lightning rod and people will have strong reactions to him.

“We were disappointed that there was so much swearing. We want this to be a family event and it would have been nice if it was toned down.

“Some people who felt it was offensive made the decision to leave. We’re truly sorry if people were offended. It wasn’t our intention in booking them.

“We have had a couple of complaints but we’ve equally had people saying they were one of the best sets all weekend. There were still several thousands of people who stayed to the very end and were asking for encores,” she added.
