Christy Dignam reveals a bad infection could kill him

Christy Dignam has revealed his immune system is so low that a bad infection could kill him.

The Aslan front man was diagnosed with the incurable blood cancer Amyloidosis back in 2013, and underwent chemotherapy at the time.

Speaking to TV Now Magazine, the singer said, “As you have a better appreciation of things, everything you do is potentially the last time you’ll do it.

“My health could turn on a pin. For example, a few months ago, everything was going grand and I was doing a gig in Limerick.

“I got an infection and that turned to sepsis because my immune system was so low, I didn’t have any immunity to attack the infection.

“The sepsis nearly killed me and that can happen overnight.”

Christy went on to say that he embraces every day of his life and that his priorities have changed.

The singer said he absorbs every moment of what he is doing as “it could be the last time”.

“When I first got diagnosed I was given 24 hours to live and when I got through that 24 hours, I was given six months to live.

“At that point, the band didn’t matter; records didn’t matter; the house didn’t matter. “The only thing that mattered was the family and that taught me a great lesson. It’s what life is all about,” Christy continued.
