Craig Doyle compares working for RTÉ to ‘appalling sex’

Craig Doyle has compared working for RTÉ to appalling sex.

The presenter is known for his work with the BBC but got his start in TV with the national Irish broadcaster.

“It’s like, you grow up as a kid and there’s a girl who lives around the corner and she’s like your best buddy,” he said.

His first chat show, Tonight with Craig Doyle, aired for just one season on RTÉ1 before he moved to RTÉ2 to front The Social, later rebranded Craig Doyle Live.

“Then you get a bit older and testosterone starts flowing and you can’t really talk to her and all that malarkey,” he told Jarlath Regan’s Irishman Abroad podcast.

“And then, years later, you meet her again and you’re single and she’s single.

“And you go, gosh she’s really nice, and I know her really well, it’s really comfortable this relationship with her, and I know her and she’s only down the road, it’s terribly convenient.

“And you get together but then the sex is really appalling. And her friends don’t like you and you don’t particularly like her friends – RTÉ was that girl.”

However, he remembers RTE as “a very important part” of his career.
