EXCLUSIVE! Irish Game Of Thrones star Art Parkinson talks working with Matthew McConaughey

Irish GOT star Art Parkinson has worked with many a-listers,  including Matthew McConaughey and The Rock.

The 15-year-old opened up to Goss.ie at the launch of the Seachtain na Gaeilge at Facebook HQ last week about working with such huge names.

The young actor said, “it’s always cool to see somebody with so much experience and be able to work along side them.”

The San Andreas star explained that “it was cool working with The Rock because I’ve never really done a full on action film, so there was a couple of tips there.

Big Break: Art Parkinson as Rickon Stark in the fantasy series, Game of Thrones | HBO 

The Irish thespian got his first big break at the tender age of seven playing the role as Rickon Stark in the HBO series, Game of Thrones.

However, most recently the Donegal native voiced the lead role in the animation Kubo and the Two Strings, alongside Matthew McConaughey and Charlize Theron, which has been nominated for two Oscars this year.

The young actor explained that he met Matthew McConaughey at the press conferences for the animated movie and “he was a very very down to earth man.”

Art attends an Irish speaking school in Donegal and is the Irish language ambassador for Seachtain na Gaeilge this year alongside Miriam O’Callaghan and TG4 presenter, Michael Carey.

Art also spoke about how Matthew McConaughey has an interest in the Irish language, as he previously admitted that he’d like to send his kids to the Gaeltacht.

The Donegal native said, “he has a huge interest apparently in the Irish language”.

“I heard he wanted to send his kids to the Gaeltacht at some point,” he added.

Meanwhile, Art is delighted to be part of the Irish language revolution, “It’s something that I always dreamed about being able to be part of a project that spreads and raises awareness for the Irish language and culture” he explained.
