Judge Darren Bennett has defended the voting system on Dancing With The Stars.

“It’s the same all over the world. We have shock exits,” he said.

Dance Off: Shock as Denise McCormack was in the bottom two last week on DWTS Ireland | RTÉ

After Des Bishop’s shock exit a few weeks ago and then Denise McCormack being in the bottom two last week no-one seems safe but the producer of the show Larry Bass is urging people to vote for who they want to stay in the competition.

“There’s an audience that like to watch you and an audience that will vote for you – there’s a big difference between the two,” Darren told Goss.ie.

“On social media Des Bishop was huge, everybody loved his dancing – sometimes it doesn’t equate to the vote and that’s why we make a TV show.

“It doesn’t mean that people don’t like you, it’s just that they might see something more in somebody else.”

Surprise: Lorraine was shocked to see Denise McCormack in the bottom two | RTÉ

The former Strictly Come Dancing professional thinks that the audience like to be able to relate to the amateur dancer saying, “‘I could be Denise [McCormack], I could be Teresa [Mannion], I could be Des Cahill,’ for the people sitting at home watching.”

Ballroom dancer and judge Loraine Barry also spoke to Goss.ie and admitted she was shocked to see Denise in the bottom two, yet believed that Teresa was the weakest amateur dancer left in the competition.

“I thought it was right if you really look at it – the person who went home out of the dancers was the weakest person.

“I was just so surprised that Denise would be in that Dance Off too. but I think that’s just down to the public not voting for her,” she added.

Dancing With The Stars returns this Sunday for 6.30pm on RTÉ 1 and welcomes back Julian Benson.
