Ireland’s Eurovision entry Brendan Murray has topped the charts in an unlikely country

Although Brendan Murray failed to break Ireland’s Eurovision curse this year – he has gained a new group of fans in a very unlikely country.

The former Hometown singer was sent home in the semi-final of the competition with his song, Dying To Try.

However, while Europe didn’t show much love for the song – eastern European country Armenia did.

Speaking on TV3’s The Six O’Clock Show, Brendan revealed, “Funnily enough, my single was actually number one in Armenia, number five in Slovenia and number 11 in the viral charts in Belgium.”

“I didn’t believe that I’d got to number one in Armenia when I was first told, but then I saw it and I was like ‘that’s ridiculous, so weird'”.

Speaking about the contest, Brendan said compared to years ago when Ireland was successful in the Eurovision – the competition is so different.

“It’s such a different competition now and it’s going to get bigger every year, from what I’ve heard. There was a Chinese delegation there this year.

“It’s getting so big. There wasn’t 42 countries competing back in the 1990’s when Ireland did well.”
