Irish Film Board backs €80million plan to build Hollywood-style studio in Dublin

The Irish Film Board have backed an €80million plan to build a Hollywood-style studio in Dublin’s Docklands.

If the project gets the go-ahead, Dublin Bay Studios will turn a piece of urban wasteland into a flashy new film studio, with thanks to James Morris, the founder of Windmill Lane Studios, and Alan Moloney, who produced 2015’s Brooklyn.

James and Alan are now urging the Dublin City Council to give the green light, as they plan on transforming the former Irish Glass Bottle site in Poolbeg into a 20-acre film studio – which will also create thousands of jobs.

Speaking to the Irish Sun, Film Board chief James Hickey said, “We certainly welcome it — if and when it came to fruition.”

“There are plans to develop studios in Ashford and if and when Ardmore Studios is sold presumably there will be plans to develop that facility. There’s also Troy in Limerick.

“So there’s a lot going on and on the basis that this growth continues there will be a need for all these facilities.”

Meanwhile, major Irish stars including Liam Neeson and Cillian Murphy have backed the studio plans, with Cillian admitting that it is the “missing piece in the jigsaw” for the film industry in Ireland.
