RTÉ only get a ‘small percentage’ of DWTS voting lines money

RTÉ has revealed that they only get a “small percentage” of the money from the Dancing With The Stars voting lines.

Calls to the show cost 61c a minute, while texts cost 60c.

A spokesperson for RTÉ was asked what fraction of the revenue generated goes to RTÉ, and she said they only get a “percentage” of it.

Small Percentage: RTÉ don’t get a lot of revenue from DTWS | RTÉ

She then told the Irish Independent that she couldn’t reveal more detailed information on the voting system as it was it was deemed “commercially sensitive”.

“RTÉ is a non-profit organisation and any revenue generated from premium-rate calls and texts is re-invested to provide a quality service to its audience.”

However, an RTÉ source said that Dancing With The Stars was not considered to be a “large revenue generator” and that these kind of programmes didn’t raise half as much money as they used to.

Interaction: People don’t interact with these kind of shows as much as they used to | RTÉ

The source said, “People don’t interact with these shows as much as they would have in the past.

“That’s a changing element of voting-style shows that means they wouldn’t get as many votes as they used to, which has a knock-on effect on how much is actually raised from them.”

“RTÉ would only get a small percentage of the revenue, once it’s divided up between the other parties.”
