Shane Lowry has revealed why he skipped Rory McIlroy’s wedding over the weekend.
The Irish golfer married Erica Stoll in a lavish ceremony at Ashford Castle on Saturday, and although it was said to be the wedding of the year – Shane skipped the big bash because it was his granny’s 80th birthday.
“I wasn’t [at the wedding], no. My granny was 80 on Saturday night so we had a birthday party for her at home.
“Like I said, family comes first,” he said on Today with Sean O’Rourke on RTE Radio One.

Shane insisted that “family comes first” just weeks after welcoming his first child with wife Wendy Horner.
“Genuinely I was at my granny’s 80th. It was at Esker Hills Golf Club on Saturday night, so we were there. We had a great night.
“She’s still flying at 80 years of age, which is great. She has 13 kids and almost every one of them were there.”
Meanwhile, it has been revealed that Rory did everything in his power to keep his wedding from the prying eyes of the public, and even hired anti-drone technology for their big day.
