Amy Huberman: ‘I was never one of the cool kids in UCD’

Amy Huberman has admitted that she was “never one of the cool kids” while she was in college.

The actress, who completed both an undergraduate and post-graduate degree in UCD, looked back on her days in college in a recent interview – and told how she wasn’t always the ‘it’ girl.

Speaking to Jarlath Regan, who also attended UCD, the pair spoke about how a number of students from south Dublin had the advantage at making friends as they already knew each other, whereas him and Amy knew no one.

“I always felt on the periphery of that,” Amy said on the An Irishman Abroad podcast.

After Amy joined the drama society in college, she developed a “great crew” of friends, which included popular Irish actor and comedian Chris O’Dowd.

“I was never cool enough to be in the elite. It wasn’t something that meant anything to me anyway.”

“I was never one of the cool kids. We all knew they existed but I was not in there. I had a great crew of friends, where that didn’t really seem important,” she said.
