David McSavage has revealed that he’s struggling to pay his rent, as he discussed the importance of job security.
The Savage Eye star admitted that he’s constantly “one week away from financial oblivion”, which has made him understand why people opt for steady jobs – whether they like what they do or not.
After the Leaving Cert results were released this week, David told the Irish Mirror, “I do get why people stay focused on doing the Leaving Cert and getting a job where they have security.”
“The fact that you don’t do well, is no indication that you’re not going to do well in real life because I personally failed my Leaving Cert in 1984 and look at me now.”

“Look, it’s supposed to be funny. I’m struggling to pay the f**kin’ rent, let’s be honest, I’m one week away from financial oblivion constantly for years.
“As you get older you understand why people choose that even though they’re doing jobs that they don’t like or their not that into, the fear is as we get older we don’t have that, and being dependent on other people, it’s just quite horrifying.
“You can’t underestimate being able to create enough wealth for yourself in whatever it is. When you’re unemployed or you can’t see where the next cheque is coming from it’s very f**ing scary,” he said.

At the moment, David is working on a new pilot which he hopes will be picked up in the UK – and revealed that he has no interest in getting anything commissioned in Ireland.
“I’m going over to London for a month and going to write a pilot for the UK and see how it goes. The Savage Eye finished in 2013, I never wanted to do a show about Ireland but because we’re so inward looking it was the only way I could get the thing commissioned.
“I don’t want to talk or look at Ireland anymore because I’m not interested, I’ve had enough of it,” he added.
