He says that his first memory after the attack was, “waking up in the hospital, and I was there for about ten or eleven hours. I had a brain scan and that thankfully came back all clear.”

“My tooth was knocked through my lip, I was all bust-up and I couldn’t see properly and I was nauseous. After the scan I started vomiting pretty violently.

“I went home for a day but then the next day vision started to go and I vomited like twelve times in the space of a few hours.”

The presenter then spoke about what happened after he left the hospital, “There was ringing in my ears and my head was absolutely pounding.

“My girlfriend is actually a doctor and she said, ‘Oh Jesus, we should bring you back to the hospital’. So I went back and had another brain scan.

“Got hooked up to a drip with fluids and painkillers and whatnot. In the end they said there was a lot of bruising on the skull, so it’s being put under a lot of pressure. It’s a severe concussion.”

He continued, “Maybe 3 or 4 weeks I might have headaches and balance problems. I’ve lost my sense of taste.

“One thing that really shocked me was the amount of people who reached out to me on Facebook and sent me messages going ‘I had a son or a daughter, or it just happened me’ that was the bit I couldn’t get over.”

Talking about how little details could have changed his fate, Eoghan said, “I could have been closer to a curb or a wall, or I could’ve fallen a different way or at a different angle. The outcome could’ve been totally different.”
