Irish stars dominate nominations at the British National Television Awards 2017 – and one Irish man is up for two awards.

The ceremony, which is hosted by Irish man Dermot O’Leary, brings together some of the best actors, writers and hosts of the year.

One of the most coveted categories is Best Comedy – and Ireland’s favourite mammy is one of the nominees for Mrs. Brown’s Boys.

Brendan O’Carroll’s show will be up against other hugely popular shows such as Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black, The Big Bang Theory starring Jim Parson’s and ITV’s Benidorm.

Another heated category is for Best Drama – and Game Of Thrones, filmed on Irish soil, is up against BBC’s Casualty, Cold Feet starring Antrim native James Nesbitt, BBC’s Happy Valley and The Night Manager starring Hugh Laurie.

Dubliner Aidan Turner’s show Poldark is up against fellow Irish man Cillian Murphy’s show Peaky Blinders for Best Period Drama.

Also up for Best Period Drama is Netflix’s award-winning show Stranger Things, BBC’s Call The Midwife and, Poldark’s biggest contender, Victoria starring Jenna Coleman.

However, if Peaky Blinder misses out on Best Period Drama, Cillian may still snag an award as he’s nominated for Best Drama Performance for his role in the show.

Also up for Best Drama Performance is Taylor Swift’s latest ex Tom Hiddleston for his role in BBC’s The Night Manager, Sarah Lancashire for her role in Happy Valley and Jenna again for her role in Victoria.

Graham Norton joins his fellow Irish men in award nominations for Best Entertainment Programme for his BBC show, The Graham Norton Show.

He’s up against Ant And Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, Rufus Hound’s Celebrity Juice and Alex Brooker’s The Last Leg.

Voting is now open and the awards will be show on ITV on January 25th at 7.30pm.
