Karen Koster feels like she’s ‘always failing’ being a working mother

Karen Koster has admitted that she feels like she’s “always failing” being a working mother.

The TV3 star works on entertainment show Xposé, which is a serious commitment due to the changeable work hours and last minute travel.

Although Karen loves her job, she admitted that it can be “full on” at times – and that she constantly feels “pulled apart”.

“It’s full on. If I’m honest, I feel pulled apart. I feel guilty when I can’t work late because I have to pick up the kids and then I feel bad when I get to creche and they are the last two babies to be picked up,” she told the Irish Sun.

“I feel like I am always failing and I need to give more to my kids, my job, my husband, my parents, my friends.

“But I do the only thing I can when I am with someone, I try to be present. So if I am with someone, I am not checking my phone, and if the boys are getting too much I just stand in the kitchen for a moment.”

Karen is a mum to two sons, Finn and John James, with her husband John McGuire, who is a successful businessman and chairman of QuoteDevil.ie.

“We say John looks after the big stuff and I look after the smaller stuff — getting food, cleaning them, dressing them, it is constant.

“John has his own business so he never took time off. So when I had Finn, I got out on the Saturday and he was back to work at 8am on Monday. I was just thinking, ‘I shouldn’t be allowed be alone with this baby, there should be another grown-up in the house.

“The father-son bond is strong, but … even though I am conflicted, I know our connection is strong, I am the top dog in the house,” she added.
