RTÉ’s Claire Byrne opens up about ‘low-key’ nuptials

Claire Byrne has opened up about her “low-key” wedding, which took place back in June.

The Prime Time host wed her long-term love Gerry Scollan, in a surprise ceremony alongside their two children Patrick (2) and Jane (22 months).

Although details on their big day were kept well under wraps, Claire has admitted that they didn’t intend to keep it all secret – they just “didn’t want to make a circus out of it”.

“I didn’t want to make a circus out of it, but I also didn’t tell people not to talk about it. I just didn’t want to be talking about dresses, shoes and menus – the important thing to me was that we were getting married and it wasn’t going to be a big event,” she told the RTÉ Guide.

Claire and Gerry tied the knot in a registry office with two friends as witnesses, before toasting to their marriage in the Angler’s Rest in Chapelizod with 100 close friends and family – and Claire has revealed how keeping it “low-key” worked out so well.

“We were on the dancefloor from about eight at night until two in the morning. It was all so low-key. I refused to get stressed or make a big deal – it all went very, very smoothly,” she said.

Claire is currently juggling her home and work life, as she’s busy hosting her Monday night current affairs show Claire Byrne Live – and admitted that being a busy mum-of-two is a balancing act.

“It’s just about survival with two kids: you’re up really early, making sure everyone is fed, go to work, make sure someone is back in time to pick them up,” she added.
