Al Porter is being lined up to front an Irish version of Blind Date.

The 24-year-old is set to become Ireland’s answer to Cilla Black by hosting the new show on TV3.

An insider told the Irish Sun, “Al is perfect for hosting Blind Date.”

“He can pull in viewers and go off script and be entertaining. Al’s a vaudeville performer.”

Lucy Kennedy was originally supposed to host an Irish version of Blind Date on TV3 back in 2014, but the idea was scrapped in the end.

However, the show is now back on TV3’s agenda thanks to former RTE2 boss Bill Malone coming on board as TV3’s director of programming – and the station are expected to officially announce the new series at its autumn schedule launch.

“First Dates has been doing well on RTE2 so TV3 need their own dating show, and Al Porter fronting Blind Date would make car-crash TV,” said a source.

The news comes after Al landed his own radio show with Today FM late last year.
