WATCH: Ruth Negga is ‘still floating’ from Meryl Streep shout-out

She also speaks about growing up in Ireland

Ruth Negga joined Jimmy Kimmel to talk about her rising success and how she received a shout-out from Meryl Streep at the Golden Globes.

Meryl took on a politically charged speech at the Globes and mentioned the Limerick native in it.

Speaking about the ethnic mix of people in attendance, and their diverse backgrounds, she said, “The beautiful Ruth Negga was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and raised in Ireland, and she’s here nominated for playing a small-town girl from Virginia.”

The Irish actress then stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live in order to discuss her career success.

When Jimmy mentioned Meryls shout-out, Ruth repiled, “I’m still sort of floating from that, I haven’t absorbed it – when would I absorb that?”

When the host jokingly said, “she’s stalking you,” because Meryl seemed to know a lot about Ruth, the actress replied, “I would wish for that.”

“I couldn’t believe it, it was incredibly surreal. Just a complete dream come true. I have been such a huge fan of hers for so long.”

The brunette beauty then spoke about growing up in Ireland.

She told Jimmy, “I remember when I was growing up in Ireland there was only two channels – and they didn’t start on Saturdays until midday.

“So you’d be staring at the TV, waiting for midday – we’ve progressed now.”
