Irish stars turn out in style for the Met Gala

Irish stars hit the Met Gala red carpet in style last night – wearing their Monday best for the annual bash.

Taking place in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the annual ball celebrated the opening of the Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology exhibit with some of Ireland’s biggest stars in attendance.

Taking time out of her Broadway debut in The Crucible, Saoirse Ronan rocked a custom Christopher Kane gown with a heavily feathered neck.

The Carlow native stood out in an ivory column dress that featured a butterfly embellishment at the waist.

The bespoke design was adorned with white, pink and black feathers on right shoulder and neckline as well as the hem of the dress.

Meanwhile, flying the flag for Irish men was actor Colin Farrell in a classic three-piece tuxedo and black suede shoes.

The Hollywood star walked the red carpet with his sister Claudine at the ball, which was co-hosted by Vogue editor Anna Wintour and Taylor Swift.

Another Irish star bringing their style A game was Outlander actress Caitriona Balfe wearing a red velvet Roland Mouret gown and Kurt Geiger pumps.

While the TV star’s dress was mostly burgundy one side, it was completely black from behind with exquisite drape detailing and lace straps.

The Dubliner kept her make-up minimal on the night, highlighting her natural beauty and letting her dress do the talking.

Bringing the evening’s futuristic theme to life, actress Eve Hewson wore a silver metallic, strapless Monse dress.

Adding gothic edge thanks to her dark lip and sleek black hair, The Knick actress accessorised her look with a Tiffany & Co. diamond necklace and diamond rings on both hands.
