Irish hotel named best in the WORLD

Ballyfin Demesne, based in Co. Laois, has been named as the best hotel in the WORLD, according to a leading US travel magazine.

Over 300,000 people voted in the Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards – which landed three Irish hotels in the world’s top 10. Waterford Castle nabbed seventh place, while The Lodge at Ashford Castle came in at ninth place.

“If you’ve ever dreamed of summering at a country house, you couldn’t do much better than this stately, 20-room Georgian home,” Conde Nast wrote about Ballyfin.

“Beyond the regal four-poster canopy beds, gilded mirrors, and richly textured wallpapers, there are 614 acres of secluded private gardens begging to be strolled.

“But the real highlight? Having a butler row you out on the lake before enjoying a sumptuous lunch at the picnic house,” they added.

Ballyfin scored a 99.11 rating from readers, while Waterford Castle scored 98.6 and the Lodge at Ashford Castle scored 98.38.

Rates at the luxury Ballyfin hotel start from €560 for a Deluxe room, and go up to €1,700 for some of their top suites during high season.
