Chris O'Dowd: 'I turned down the chance to appear in the American version of Moone Boy'

TV star Chris O’Dowd has revealed he turned down the chance of starring in an American version of Moone Boy.

Goss.ie told earlier this week how US network ABC has picked up the Sky 1 series for a US remake.

But Chris – who fears it won’t get past a pilot – admitted he could have been in the Stateside version but didn’t want to sign away his career for seven years.

“They asked us to write a pilot script and the way that these things normally go is that is as far as it normally go,” he said.

“But it will be still kind of fun so we’ll work on that. I won’t be in it because I feel like I’ve done it already.

“And once you start network television in America you have to sign up for seven years – I just don’t really fancy it.”

The Boyle native also told the Ray D’Arcy Show how he owes so much of his career to Bridesmaids – which made people realise they could see him as a “sexual object”.

“In a lot of ways, previous to that people probably didn’t know that I could be looked at as a sexual object,” he said.

“They were like ‘Oh that nerd in the basement, that weird beardy guy that hangs around with that kid in Roscommon’. That kind of opened up a lot of doors for sure.”
