House of Cards star Michael Kelly has revealed his Irish ancestry.

With a surname like Kelly, it’s hard to deny his Celtic heritage and the star was more then happy to open up about his Irish connection.

The actor, who is famous for playing Doug Stamper in the Netflix hit said he hails from Donegal.

“My grandfather came over on a boat to the States and ended up in Philadelphia. He originally came from Donegal,” the actor confessed.

Michael, who is starring along side Keira Knightley and Jake Gyllenhaal in the film Everest, revealed he was due to visit the Emerald Isle on a break from shooting.

“I was over in London doing the film Everest last summer and I had a weekend planned to come over to Ireland but stuff came up so it was cancelled,” he said.

Though it didn’t work out for the Irish-American star, he has admitted he will make to his grandfather’s homeland and bring his father with him.
