Hunky British actor tipped to be the next James Bond

Tom Hardy could be the next James Bond, as Paddy Power have slashed the British actor’s odds to 6/4.

The Batman star has long been rumoured for the role, but this week, he has leapt ahead of James Norton (9/4) and Aidan Turner (10/3) in the race to play 007, with incumbent Daniel Craig still yet to sign a new deal.

Adding more fuel to the fire, when Tom was asked if he’d ever take on the role of James Bond recently, he said, “You know, there’s a saying amongst us in the fraternity of acting, and in the fellowship of my peer group, that if you talk about it you’re automatically out of the race.

“So I can’t possibly comment on that one! If I mention it, it’s gone,” he told The Daily Beast.

The actor also hinted that Christopher Nolan, who directed him in The Dark Knight Rises and Inception, should be in charge of the next Bond instalments, no matter who it stars.

“Chris Nolan, what a fantastic director for a Bond movie. Because Daniel is so good, and what [director Sam] Mendes and Barbara [Broccoli, producer] have done has been so impressive, that it would be a very hard re-imagination to follow after.

“I wonder what the next instalment of that franchise would become, and I think when you mention someone like Christopher Nolan, that’s a very powerful figure to bring into that world who could bring something new and create something profound… again.”

Meanwhile, a spokesman for Paddy Power said, “Despite usually playing roles that are maniacal or mumbling, Tom surely he won’t be able to say Dr No to this role.

“If the latest reports are right, Hardy could prove to be the Baine of my life – my only hope is that producers thing he’s a tad too Kray for Bond.”

Check out the betting odds for the next 007 below:

6/4 Tom Hardy
9/4 James Norton
10/3 Aidan Turner
