Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall takes a pop at Disney after missing out on Princess Jasmine role

Jade Thirlwall has taken a pop at Disney, after she reportedly missed out on being cast as Princess Jasmine in the live-action reboot of Aladdin.

Back in May, it was reported that the Little Mix star was in talks for the iconic role, as the film’s director Guy Ritchie was looking for “newcomers” to play the lead role of Jasmine.

However, over the weekend Disney bosses announced that half-Indian actress Naomi Scott (Power Rangers) landed the role, and that relatively unknown actor Mena Massoud will play Aladdin.

Shortly after the announcement was made, Jade liked a comment on Instagram which asked, “Why would they cast an Indian instead of someone who is at least of Arab heritage?”

Jade, who has Yemeni and Egyptian roots, also shared a rather telling picture on Instagram – insisting that she was “over it”.

At the Disney Expo, it was also revealed that Will Smith will play the Genie, and production for the film will start this month.
