Ed Sheeran in battle with label bosses to keep Irish songs on Divide

Ed Sheeran has revealed that he had battle label bosses in order to include Irish sounding track Galway Girl, featuring accordions and fiddles, and other Irish songs on Divide.

The singer told his label that the Irish tracks were “going to be massive” because there are 400 million people in the world who will say they are Irish even if they aren’t.

Antrim band Beoga co-wrote on Ed’s upcoming album, and also play on it.

The traditional Irish band said that they back Ed’s decision all the way.

Speaking to The Irish Sun, bodhrán player for Beoga Eamon Murray said, “Ed is proud of his heritage.

“I think it’s a great thing that someone who’s as good as Ed can see what Ireland has to offer. He is at the forefront and constantly coming up with new ideas and approaches so fair play to him.”

The musician also spoke about working with the international superstar, “We brought over a few demo ideas, did a few run-throughs and then ended up jamming on five or six songs, two of which made the cut, which we’re delighted with.

“One of the songs, we co-wrote with Ed is called Galway Girl.”
