Irish rowers give GAS interview after winning silver in Olympics

Two Irish rowers are making headlines not just for winning silver in the Olympics today but for the hilariously honest interviews they’re giving.

Paul O’Donovan and Gary O’Donovan are the first Irish rowers ever to win a medal in the Olympics.

Despite the big win, the lads are fearful of returning home to their coach Mick Conlan who gave them a warning if they didn’t win gold.

“Mick Conlan said he’d box the head off us if we didn’t win gold!” Gary said.

Paul admitted that they’re delighted to be competing as rowers and hope that more people will take up rowing as a sport.

“We’re just happy to do it for the sport really,” Paul said to RTE’s Rio correspondent.

“There’s a big buzz around rowing now so it’s a fantastic sport.

“I’m just hoping that a load more people will start to take it up and give it a go.

The brothers first interview was definitely one of the most hilarious to come out yet from the Olympics where they admitted that they love having some steak and spuds over in Rio.
